The Center for American Industrial Strength (CAIS) is dedicated to revitalizing the U.S. as a global manufacturing leader while fostering collaboration with allied nations to drive innovation, create resilient supply chains, and secure economic and national security interests.
Our mission is grounded in the following pillars:
CAIS supports reshoring critical industries and revitalizing the American manufacturing base. We aim to attract global companies to produce domestically by offering incentives such as competitive taxes, reduced regulatory barriers, and access to a skilled workforce. This will not only create high-quality jobs but also support the U.S. as a manufacturing powerhouse.
Innovation is the lifeblood of a thriving industrial sector. CAIS seeks to spearhead advancements in emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, hypersonics, and energy. By fostering partnerships between industry, government, and academia, we aim to develop technologies that not only enhance manufacturing but also create new opportunities for U.S. leadership in global markets.
The pandemic underscored the vulnerability of global supply chains. CAIS is focused on helping to create secure, domestic supply chains for critical industries such as semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, and defense.
The U.S. economy does not operate in isolation. CAIS recognizes the importance of collaboration with allied nations, such as those in the AUKUS partnership, to strengthen global industrial networks. By co-developing technologies, integrating supply chains, and sharing resources, we aim to create a collective industrial strength that benefits all partners and reinforces shared security goals.
A strong industrial base requires a skilled and adaptable workforce. CAIS supports the development of training programs, apprenticeships, and educational initiatives that equip workers with the skills needed for advanced manufacturing. By investing in workforce development we provide pathways to well-paying jobs and ensure a steady pipeline of talent for the industries of tomorrow.
Economic strength is intrinsically linked to national security. CAIS works to ensure that the U.S. industrial base can meet the demands of defense and critical infrastructure.
CAIS aspires to be a beacon for industrial collaboration, showcasing what good looks like in industry partnerships. By fostering open communication, sharing best practices, and driving joint initiatives, we aim to inspire other nations to adopt similar models of success, contributing to a more stable and prosperous global economy.

Chad Johnson is the esteemed President of the Akana Group, a leading provider of innovative logistics solutions and equipment services to clients worldwide. With over two decades of experience in the logistics and equipment sector, Chad has been instrumental in steering the company towards unprecedented growth and establishing its reputation as an industry pioneer.
In 2013, Chad started the Akana Group, a Native American-owned business focused on building strategic partnerships with the Federal and Tribal governments. The AKANA Group is a Native-Owned Small Business Enterprise specializing in Agriculture, Forestry, Seasonal Maintenance, Construction, Roads, Service Trucks and Commercial Cleaning equipment, operating in the U.S, Canada, and Australia.
Akana Equipment developed quickly after Johnson and his team made their first deal with John Deere (JD) and became the only Native partner of JD, world-wide. The Akana Group is made up of seven separate entities, Akana Ittatoba being the newest operation to launch in Australia. Akana Ittatoba is the first and only Native company to incorporate in AU and it is their mission to build allyship with First Nations businesses and Communities around the world. Today, Akana Equipment is the largest Native-owned equipment provider in North America.
Johnson and his team continue to spearhead new operations, and have recently developed the first ever Native-owned Free Trade Zone (FTZ) in the U.S.A. The FTZ is a true multi-model option that includes air, sea and land. Chad’s leadership philosophy centres on empowering employees, nurturing a culture of innovation, and maintaining a customer-centric approach, which has been key to the company’s success and resilience.
As the original stewards of the lands and waters, Akana understands and appreciates the importance of having meaningful relationships to our Indigenous partners and allies. Despite his remarkable success, Johnson still defines Akana as a small business and credits his talented team for all their accomplishments. Chad loves to say his job is to just get out of the way and let his people do what they do best.
